Pre-OP Info

Surgery scheduled 7/23 at Hoag: 8:30 AM, be there @ 6:30. The doctor said that Diane's surgery is the 2nd most difficult surgery to perform, with liver transplant being no. 1. She will loose part of her stomach, most of her pancreas, a portion of her small intestine, and all of her gall bladder. We pray there is no cancer. We hope that she will not become a diabetic. Diane has a lot ahead of her: No food after 7/21, pre-op preps 7/22, a 6 to 14 hour op on 7/23, then eating (or lack of) will become a whole new lifestyle. She is expected to lose weight in this process, but doesn't advocate this method. After 4 weeks, the nausea and pain should begin to subside, she will become a better eater, and is expected to return home. In 6 weeks she will hopefully "turn the corner", and in 3 months, she will be able to resume normal activity. She will have follow-up screening for the rest of her life. Her anxiety level is very high; but so are her spirits. My hat's off to her for her bravery: I really admire her. If you need me, I will be by her bedside. Jeff

Couldn't agree more Dad about Mom's bravery, well said.

And Mom, at least the wait is almost over and after years of not feeling well and pain, you finally get to be on the "healing side" of all this (I just wish the recovery could be easier and shorter!). We all have so much to look forward to Grandma. We will see you at your bedside with Dad!

July 21st
Diane and Jeff,
It brings tears to my eyes to read what Jeff wrote in the blog and what Marc and Christine wrote, you are surrounded by so much love. Your pictures on the blog make me feel so close to you and of course you are the best looking couple I know.

Jim and I were talking at lunch about you guys and Jim said if you needed him to, he would come and pick up Katie and bring her to her Bishop home for a vacation.

I pray for all of you everyday, to give you all strength and a speedy recovery for our Diane and I will have my candle lit all day on Wednesday.

You guys are very special to us, take good care of each other. Bless you Marc and Christine for taking such good care of them.

We love you dear friends,
Jim and Glenna
